I have seen you (তোমালোকক মই দেখিছোঁ)

Origin(Assamese) : Sameer Tanti

Translated by Dr Birinchi Kumar Das

I saw you amidst the execution ground

Silent and firm like an ancient Sal tree

My heart brims with pride still at the thought
of it

That uncompromising battle and incomparable
courage of yours

Overlaid the whole sky

Like a never-yielding independent flag

I looked at your faces

As if you had said in screams

We have to triumph over brutality

On behalf of humanity and democracy

My heart brims with pride still at the thought
of it.

I view still in the distant paddy field and
blue hilltop

The splendour of your faces

The songs of your victory

Still, I hear that voice

As sacred as the chimes of the temple bells at
the dawn

That diffuse everywhere like the birds’ chirps

Farewell, comrade. We will meet again

In a new world.
